In mid-july of 23' I was digging in Colorado and went to meet my friends at Red feather lakes. My Friends, Ashley and Tommy Pulda have multiple claims in Red feather lakes and we're preparing to move to Arkansas.
In Red feather we dug many hematite included oddball Northern Colorado crystals from their claims there. I was headed on a journey North and West through Idaho to look at someone's claim in Idaho and they opted to join in my trip at the last minute. Most of our trip ended up being more of a rockhounding trip than a mining trip. The Idaho digs were okay but not very prolific and we're spoiled.
At this point, Tommy suggested we go visit a locality in Northern Nevada he had found a couple years earlier that had a lot of amethyst or sign of amethyst coming out of the banks of the surrounding hills.
We headed down to this odd little gambling town in Northern Nevada and worked our way to the site. To my surprise there were veins of quartz crystals apparent in numerous places Smokies trying to form scepters in clusters and multiple veins of solid amethyst trying to crystallize.
We got sucked into one spot which was a hollow tube or a vent into the ground that had huge plates of white quartz with Chevron amethyst showing on the undersides and sides of them. We probably should have been digging the other amethyst veins, but we got so sucked in because it was a hollow vent. We dug there for 3 days for some very large clusters of interestingly shaped, reverse scepters and artichoke habit quartz clusters. Close to the end we found Chevron style amethyst recrystallizing from the broken shards which gave us more promise, but we were excited nonetheless.
Tommy had asked a couple times whether he should put this under claim. He knew it wasn't currently and no one had dug it before us.
I encouraged him vehemently to claim the valley. The next month Tommy contacted me and said he had claimed a double claim for us, which was a nice addition adding my name and equaling 40 acres. Even though this is federal land each States claim laws seem to vary and Nevada was no exception but after much paperwork Tommy managed to secure a claim.
The summer of 2024 we are going to jump through some federal hoops and start working these numerous amethyst veins. Not to mention still the attraction to the vent going deep underground.
This property holds endless promise and I can't wait to dig it further.
We know there are amazing crystals and the next plan is to make it easier to access, more comfortable to dig at and really explore whats there.
